When my mother gave birth to me (my little bottle) She tied the bottle to my neck (my little bottle) And she swore me Not to take it off my neck Be cursed you, mayor, You had poles raised in the street When I come in the evening They seem like people in the fog I stop and I talk to them I treat them with a sip And it's not my sin, really They invite me to drink as well When my mother gave birth to me (my little bottle) She tied the bottle to my neck (my little bottle) And she swore me Not to take it off my neck Not to take it off my neck Till it puts me into the grave

Ma Dusei 04:38
I have left, and I have left to cross the Olt I have left, and I have left to cross the Olt With my, with my, with my sweetheart as well With my, with my, with my sweetheart as well And the bridge keeper, and the bridge keeper asks for a penny And the bridge keeper, and the bridge keeper asks for a penny And my, and my, and my sweetheart for good And my, and my, and my sweetheart for good But rather then, but rather then give him a penny But rather then, but rather then give him a penny Better, better, better to swim across it Better, better, better to swim across the Olt As where, as where Olt is deeper As where, as where Olt is deeper My sweetheart will carry me, will carry me, will carry me, on her back My sweetheart will carry me, will carry me, will carry me, on her back And where, and where, and where Olt is shallower And where, and where, and where Olt is shallower I'll go myself, I'll go myself, I'll go myself as I'm quite strong I'll go myself, I'll go myself, I'll go myself as I'm quite strong

Great is rose wine Harvested in late autumn Some on frost, some on snow A lot I drink and I don't get drunk I swore not drink again But I cannot refrain Great is wine, and well I like it Don't know what I'm going to do to that vine Beloved wine, of a rare fruit Climbs to the head without a ladder Beloved wine of green grapes Makes the man so that you won't see him Great is wine and tasteful as well When you drink it with handsome people But if you drink it with ugly people The wine gets stuck in your throat
4.
Valeleu 02:09
My mama told me she would give me (văleleu, văleleu) As dowry when I get married (văleleu, văleleu) A score of big pillows All of them filled with mosquitoes A score of small pillows All of them filled with ants A score of soft pillows All of them filled with junk A score of barrels Without bottom, without staves Two bow-legged ducks These to be the milkcows

Lume, Lume 05:53
World, world, sister world World, world, sister world When will I have enough of you When will I have enough of you When I give up bread for Lent And the glass will give up on me Maybe then I'll have enough of you Maybe then I'll have enough of you When they hammer the nails on my coffin When they hammer the nails on my coffin World, sister world When they put me in my grave And I won't be on earth anymore World, sister world That's how the world is, transient 'Cause that's how the world is, transient One is born, another dies One is born, another dies World, sister world The born one suffers The dead one rots 'Cause that's how the world is, transient One is born, another dies World, sister world The born one suffers The dead one rots World, sister world

Ciuleandra 02:15
Green leaf of 'siminoc', Keep the circle in place, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. Keep it like that, lads, Until my darling catches up to me, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. Strengthen it (fasten it) just a little, She ('puica') is close to catch up with me, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. Fasten it one more step, she caught me up, but didn't stay, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. Two straws, two grains, Let's stomp* the Ciuleandra, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. Keep it like that, don't let it down, 'Cause I'm on same step with my darling, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. Two straws, two grains, Stomp the Ciuleandra now, One more time, boys, Hop-and-so-and so. * Notes: siminoc = everlasting flower, xeranthemum. The name of the flower is not essential; 'foaie verde de..' is the usual starting verse of Romanian folk songs, the flower or tree varying from song to song for rhyming purposes. puica, puico = my darling (fem.) -- means, in the initial sense, pullet, female chicken; it does not, however, have the negative connotations that its American exact translation has; it is also used in its masculine form 'puiule' = my darling. a more exact translation than stomp would be beat up , in Romanian the same verbal form is used to describe the action against a person

about
